A Rich History
Sundays Barber Shop was inspired by the founder, Andre Fersa's, grandfather, Domingo Handal. Immigrating to the United States with his wife Linda and five children, he set out to achieve the American Dream. Arriving in Brooklyn before settling in Jersey City, Domingo was equipped with discipline, work ethic, and a drive to provide for his family. He purchased a building on Central Ave, where he would run his business for the next four decades.
That business was an ice cream store. He partnered with Carvel, and after 25 years, Domingo decided it was time to branch off and build something of his own. A brand that represented him and the community he served. He named it Amourville and operated it for the next 15 years. Working long hours, often seven days a week, every detail was done a specific way, the Amourville way. In his retirement, Domingo looked back on Amourville as a labor of love. He was proud of his business and prided himself on serving the community, earning recognition through the Jersey City Heights Special Improvements District for his charitable contributions of both time and money over the decades.
Sundays is a mix of old and new. Respecting a 6,000-year-old profession while understanding the demands of modern life. The story of Sundays can't be told without mention of Virile Barber & Shop, and its founder, Adam Ramos. Founded in Waldwick, New Jersey, in September 2011, Adam built an atmosphere where clients felt pampered and catered to.
After 15 years and six locations, Adam and his partners decided to lean into their own individual brands, ones specific to their teams and the communities they serve. We'll never forget where we came from, or the impact Adam had on all of our lives. Virile Barber & Shop lives on, where it has successfully operated since September 2011.
Through Sundays, Domingo lives on. Not just Domingo, but all the hard-working people in our lives who paved the road for us. People who put their families first instilled in us the traits that make us who we are and allowed us to be in the positions we hold today. As we look towards the future, continuing to improve, innovate, and be at the forefront of the trade, we never forget where we came from. Domingo and Linda have since passed, but their spirit very much lives on.
